Living and Dining Reveals!

Hey Blocksters, back by our follower's request is our weekly Room reveal review. I'll try my best not to be 'Negative Nellie', but there are no guarantees. This week was by far the most dramatic and emotionally straining so far for the contestants, with the second walk-off this season. Thankfully all 5 couples delivered finished Living and Dining rooms, including Hans and Courtney who had the largest space in Block history. Let's have a look at the rooms delivered.

Kerrie and Spence

The obvious hero of the room is the stunning coffered ceiling. Not only is it very detailed, but it makes the room feel more mature and comfortable. This was mainly due to the amazing furniture choices and layout choices that they made. The combination of the leather and the soft grey fabric works well as well. The bookshelf against the entrance wall is also a success, styling book-shelves is by no means easy but Kerrie's styling is superb (#shelfie)!
The emerald velvet dining chairs were a hit in my eyes as they gave the room a kick of personality that it could've missed out on. Although for both zones, the lighting plan needed more consideration. The pendant lights chosen for the dining table didn't work in the room and would work better in brass. As for the living room, I don't believe that the ceiling fan was necessary and as a result of its placement, the room looked a bit dark. 2 LED downlights would've been more suitable in its place. My only other criticism is the choice of coffee table. It was stunning but felt too bulky with the choices in furniture, a marble or brass table could have worked better. Overall though, the room worked really well and would definitely match what buyers would be looking for in a $2mil+ heritage apartment in St Kilda. Well done, Kerrie and Spence!

My Score: 9/10

Courtney and Hans

Two words; holy chalupas. It's not hard to see how this is the biggest space in Block history, you can fit two separate lounge areas and one dining room with the table running horizontally. The idea of having two lounge area works really well. Even though it's cut space from the terrace, they had the only terrace without an outdoor area, so it probably wouldn't be used as much as two separate lounge areas would. The styling in this area was also superb, well done Courtney! The choice of artwork went really well with the dining table and felt suitable for the area. It also added quirkiness and character, something that Courtney and Hans's room seem to always have.
The furniture choices were the best of all the couples this week, the grey velvet for the sitting room was lovely as was the green velvet chairs at the dining table. There's hardly anything I would change for this whole area. The criticism I have is for the secret bar. The wall would look amazing with a piece of art there for when it's not being used as a bar. Definitely one of the best rooms of the season so far! Courtney and Hans, you killed it!

My Score: 10/10

Sara and Hayden

Hayden and Sara: 23/30

Another massive space! The area as a whole felt both luxurious refined, this could be because of the luscious styling and the comfortable furniture choices. The furniture layout worked well and functioned for the way you would most use the living room, to watch TV. Entertaining is important as well but most people don't entertain people daily and this room works well with this theory in mind. The cabinetry and render above the fireplace is superb and ties in well the black bathroom they delivered a few weeks back.
The buffet is nice but doesn't work with the other furniture in the room, a white sideboard would've worked better. The artwork also looks amazing but doesn't work with the room and the established colour palette. And I bet you know what I'm going to say next.... the wallpaper. Do I like it? Yes. Does it work? Definitely not. It's not right for the space. The other parts of the room feel luxurious but the wallpaper looks cheap (even though it probably wasn't). There are other ways to remind people where they are but that wallpaper isn't one of them. The room still felt luxurious though and had continuity plus. Stellar job, Hayden and Sara!

My Score: 8 /10

Norm and Jess

An olive tree in the living room- why wouldn't ya? Aesthetically, this room would've received my perfect score as well. Visually, everything works and nothing seems chaotic. The flooring is the right colour and ties in with their first bathroom.
The natural light gives the illusion of grandeur and space that some of the rooms in the old Gatwick didn't have. This makes the room feel light and airy, and Norm and Jess used that to their advantage with the inclusion of soft light sheer curtains. But again, there's something I haven't mentioned yet, And you guessed it... it's the fireplace. Aesthetically it's luxurious and amazing simultaneously, although, from a functionality aspect, it's atrocious. Despite the regulations, there could have been ways around the issue that would've minimised the divide it created within the lounge. Moving it closer to the dining room would have meant that the armchairs would've worked, creating a more functional furniture layout. Norm and Jess- you would have had it in the bag!

My Score: 9/10

Bianca and Carla

Holy moly! What a gigantic space! There's so much to love about this space. It feels extremely balanced and refined. It's the perfect reflection of modern minimalistic living. The rendered wall against the TV gives the room an urban touch while also keeping to the girl's signature sophisticated look.
Again, the furniture layout and furniture choices are near perfect for the space. The velvet dining chairs make the space feel luxe and work well with the timber dining table. Although, I have a few issues with the living room. The grey fabric sofa looks a bit awkward for the space. The leather couch could have gone in its place and in it's void could be two leather armchairs. The only other criticism is the shelf underneath the TV. It just doesn't work. It's not large enough to put DVD players or stereo systems on and looks to be just too low, in an otherwise perfect room. Well done, Bianca and Carla!

My Score: 9/10

Congratulations Courtney and Hans! You've won our reveal and the judges reveal. Should've been a perfect score though. Check back in next week to see The Block's fantastic kitchen reveal.

The Block 2016 in Greville Street Prahran!!

Recently on Frank Valentic's [Buyers Advocate on The Block] Twitter he featured a chat about The Block. He mentioned his company, Advantage Property Consulting, his outcome on The Block and a general drama wrap. Featured in his drama wrap was talk about Whitney and Andy's break up, Suzi's prize money controversy and last but not least 2016 season of The Block. "There are rumours of The Block buying a property in Greville Street, Prahran." Funnily enough he is the only one that has heard this rumour. Given that he is a featured Buyers Advocate and Block Insider, I believe that it is safe to say that THE BLOCK IS GOING TO GREVILLE STREET!!! https://twitter.com/FrankValentic/status/681219239902969856
